The SC/ST Teachers' Association has expressed support and hailed the new Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) of the Delhi University (DU). They have said that the students from marginalised and underprivileged sections of society will benefit from the FYUP.
"The new reform is based on the principle of equality and no segregation is likely to occur in the upcoming system. The need to make the educational space an inclusive one is a foremost challenge currently, when more number of youngsters are expected to join universities in future. It is in light of this that the current proposal for reform at the Delhi University must be welcomed," said Dhani Ram the President of the DU SC/ST Teachers' Association.
Hailing the ordinances approved by the Academic Council in its recent meeting, Ram in a statement said the FYUP would treat underpriveleged ones equally and the first step to that was de-centralisation of the admission form.
"In centralised admission the SC/ST students were allotted a particular college and course. Hence, there was no choice, but now students will be free to choose colleges and course change will also be allowed. The SC/ST and OBC students will be admitted in general category, if their percentage would be equal to general category," he added.
