A 26-year-old female journalist was allegedly molested and beaten up by an unidentified man after she fought him for groping her while she was entering the ITO Metro Station on Monday night. Worst, the woman had to go from one place to another to get an FIR registered after more than 19 hours of struggle.

The journalist, who works with a reputed English daily headquartered at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, said the incident took place when she was entering the ITO Metro Station from gate number 1. “While I was heading inside the station, a man walking behind touched me. When I shouted at him, he came and groped. I started screaming and hit him. For nearly two-and-a-half minutes, I kept screaming and fighting but he fled. No one came to help.

“I then managed to reach inside the metro station where I alerted the CISF personnel about my ordeal. They made me wait inside the control room within the station for two hours. It was only then that police from Yamuna Depot came and I gave a written statement.”

She said she was approached by senior police officers of the Delhi Police. Despite giving a written complaint, the woman claimed that the FIR was registered only later on Tuesday evening.

Police sources said in the aftermath of the incident, CCTV cameras were scanned and the two-and-a-half minute grab was seized where it was evident how the man had molested the journalist.

The incident at the Bahardur Shah Zafar Marg area highlights how the area which houses several media houses is unsafe, said journalists, adding that apart from the Monday incident, there are several snatching incidents reported earlier.
