Scolded over a minor issue, a security guard allegedly kidnapped a German Boxer dog of a 72-year-old man residing in the Ashok Vihar Phase 1 area of North-West Delhi, police said, adding that they arrested the accused indentified as Manish on Thursday.
Following which, the police team rescued the German Boxer, "Baba" from Manish' native village where he had kept the dog for the past three days, said a senior police officer, privy to the investigation.
On January 2, Roshan lal Gupta, who runs a school in the area, approached the Ashok Vihar police that his six-year-old German Boxer worth Rs 1.5 lakh was allegedly kidnapped by their security guard Manish.
As per the complaint to police, since Gupta was not keeping well for the past few days, he let Manish take the dog for a stroll in the vicinity. Hours passed but when Manish did not return back with Baba, he grew anxious and approached police.
Based on the complaint filed by Gupta, a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code was registered at the Ashok Vihar police station.
Teams were formed to find the dog at the earliest. While one team kept surveillance on the phone records of Manish, another team tried to find out from where Manish was recruited.
"Manish was recruited from a private placement agency, Bhavani Placement Agency. We got in touch with the owner of the placement agency. He provided all details of Manish including his permanent address," said officials.
"Based on the information that Manish was a native of Bulandshahar, we sent one of the police teams there. On Thursday, Manish was apprehended and the German Boxer was safely rescued," they said.
During interrogation, Manish informed police that he had kidnapped the dog because he was scolded by Roshanlal's son in the recent past. To avenge this, he took away what was dear to Gupta family. Further investigation in the matter is underway, said police.
