Following the incident where an 11-year-old student was critically injured after a javelin thrown by a senior student struck him on the head, angry students of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Chittaranjan Park on Thursday raised an outcry and damaged vehicles of the teaching staff.

Students were agitating against the callous attitude of the school administration after Roshan lama, a Class VI student, sustained grievous injury to the left side of his temple. The javelin hurled by one of the seniors had pierced through the cranium of the 11-year-old and caused extensive damage.

Meanwhile, the victim is critical and battling for life at AIIMS Trauma Centre. The juvenile accused is reported to have absconded to Dehradun. Police officials said that teams have been sent to apprehend him.

On Thursday afternoon when classes were to commence at 1 pm, the students entering the school gates turned aggressive. They were objecting to the incident that took place inside the school premises on Tuesday.

Thousands of students staged a demonstration inside the school compound as well as outside it demanding the resignation of the Principal and strict action against the accused.

The students not only damaged the windows of classrooms but vehicles of teachers as well. Around three to four vehicles of teachers as well as buses parked outside were dented.

Police was called and students were dispersed. A few of them were also detained but later released. A case under relevant Sections of the IPC has been registered.

Due to the protest, classes for the day could not be held during the evening hours. As a precautionary measure, the school will remain closed on Friday. Some agitated students also alleged that classes were not held in right earnest and that some teachers conducted lectures in an inebriated state.

Meanwhile, the father of the victim, Suraj lama, is only allowed to meet his son once a day during the regulated hours. “The school principal, Vice- Principal, teachers and the accused student are responsible for my son’s condition. They should all be arrested. The doctors have told me that my son has a bleak chance at survival. He is on a ventilator,” said an inconsolable father, adding, “My son wanted to join the Indian Army; he would wake up every morning to go on a jog.”

Relatives of the victim also claimed that despite his paltry wage, Suraj wanted both his children to be well educated. He had been slaving day and night to see his sons succeed in life, informed a relative.
