Ten schoolchildren and the driver of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) escaped with minor injuries on Monday morning after the rashly driven vehicle turned turtle, hitting a divider at high speed, police said.
The children were rushed to a hospital and discharged after first-aid.
According to the police, the accident took place in West Delhi’s Khayala area around 7.00 am on their way to school in Punjabi Bagh from Keshav Puram. The driver was reportedly driving at a very high speed.
“The children, between 6 and 18 years of age were travelling in a Tata Safari driven by 19-year-old Amandeep. The driver, who was driving at breakneck speed, lost control of the vehicle following which it first hit a divider and then turned upside. It’s a stroke of luck that they have survived with just minor bruises,” said a police official.
The Police Control Room (PCR) followed by the police team reached the spot and rescued the children. They were rushed to a nearby hospital. Some of them were discharged after first-aid, he said.
Amandeep was injured in the incident too; he has been arrested on charges of rash and negligent driving, a West district police official said.
