The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Wednesday suspended in-charge of primary school in Wazirabad Village after reports that students were being allegedly segregated into Hindu and Muslim sections, were found to be true.
A senior NMC official said the Director of the Education department has instructed a senior official from the zonal office to visit the school and look into the matter. “During the preliminary enquiry conducted by the civic body, the allegations were substantiated and were found to be true and action was taken accordingly,” he said.
Mayor of North Delhi Adesh Gupta said that social divide on the basis of caste; community or religion would not be tolerated in the schools run by the NMC. “The corporation run schools follow the spirit of the constitution and such divide will not be tolerated. Any such practice if found in our schools, it would be rectified immediately and strict action would be taken against those found guilty,” Mayor said. The Mayor also informed that a major penalty proceeding has been initiated against in-charge of the school.
Expressing shock over the reports, senior Congress leader in north MCD Mukesh Goel said that students should be kept away from politics of vote bank. He said that student is not a Hindu or Muslim. “The report is condemnable and we strongly disapprove the act.
Schools should unite and not divide people, and these children are such impressionable minds, it will not bode well for their growth,” he said.
