A two-year-old boy was crushed to death after he came under the hind wheels of a private school bus in Gurugram’s Rithos area on Thursday morning. Police have arrested the accused bus driver and registered a First Information Report (FIR) on the charges of rash and negligent driving causing death.
The incident happened when his mother was dropping off her elder child. “The boy was standing next to his mother but suddenly moved to the driver's side of the bus. His mother who was watching his elder son board the bus did not notice that her younger son had moved away. He came under the wheels of the vehicle and was crushed to death,” said police.
The deceased was identified as Aryan, a resident of Rithos village. According to locals, the bus was over speeding in a residential area and crushed the boy. The driver was later caught by the residents and handed over police. The bus belonged to the Vivek Model School.
After the incident, residents of the area damaged the school bus and demanded strict action against the bus driver identified as Om Prakash.
Moreover, they alleged that it was not the first time a driver from the school broke the traffic regulations. The residents were also demanding arrest of the school principal. They alleged that the driver did not have a driving license and was hired without proper checking of their backgrounds and driving skills.
The family of the victim has alleged that the driver and the school authorities are guilty of gross negligence and have demanded strict action against them. “My wife had gone to drop off our children when the child, who was playing on the side of the road, crossed over to the opposite side of the bus. The driver is guilty of gross negligence and should be punished severely. We demand the strictest possible action against the school management as well,” Rohit Khatana, the victim's father, said.
“A case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal code (IPC) has been registered against the bus driver at Bhondsi police station. We are ascertaining the role of the conductor. Action will be taken against the school authority if found any negligence on their part. Further probe is underway,” Dinesh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of police (Sohna) said.
