After missing five deadlines, the much-awaited Sarita Vihar underpass will finally be opened on Friday. The underpass will be inaugurated by Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu while Delhi MPs Ramesh Bidhuri and Maheish Girri will also be present.
“The underpass will be opened at 9 am,” said a Delhi Development Authority (DDA) official. The DDA has constructed the Sarita Vihar underpass which is expected to reduce the travel time between Okhla and Noida from 45 to around 10 minutes.
The project, which had received a lot of flak for its repeated delays, was recently inspected by Delhi lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. After the inauguration on Friday, the underpass will be thrown open for the public. DDA officials claimed the final phase was completed in record time. Close to Rs 245 crore has been spent on the 1.2 km tunnel.
