Sanjay welcomes SC probe against Verma by CVC

Hailing the Supreme Court decision in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) row, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said the apex court by its decision has put a cap on the alleged rampant violations of law, order and constitution by the Narendra Modi-led BJP Government at the Centre.

The Supreme Court on Friday set a deadline of two weeks for the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to complete the enquiry against CBI Director Alok Kumar Verma, who has been divested of his duties and sent on leave in view of the feud between him and Special Director Rakesh Asthana.

Speaking on the issue, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said CBI director Alok Verma was removed by the BJP Government overnight because he was about to begin investigation into the Rafale deal. He accused that Government appointed M Nageshwar Rao as director who has serious charges of corruption against him.

"Alok Verma was removed overnight and on the next day Intelligence Bureau (IB) men were caught snooping around his house shows that Modi Government has done a big scam in purchase of Rafale jets and is now afraid and doesn't want an enquiry into their scam," said Sanjay Singh.

"Modi Government design of implicating the CBI director Alok Verma in the CVC inquiry has failed since the inquiry will now be supervised by a retired Supreme Court judge, therefore the truth behind Modi government's attempt to show that the CVC is probing major corruption allegations against Verma which warrant his stepping aside from the post will come out soon," said Singh.

He said that government's attempts to impose a junior officer with an alleged dubious track record, himself facing corruption allegations as an interim director has been curtailed the Supreme Court seeking all his decisions in a sealed cover and directing him not to take any major decision. He said that governments favourite choice for CBI chief's post, Rakesh Asthana's petition was not even heard by the Supreme Court, which means his story has no credibility.

The Supreme Court on Friday directed CBI's interim director, M Nageshwar Rao not to take any major policy decisions while the Central Vigilance Commission completed its probe into the allegations of corruption against the investigative agency's current chief Alok Verma. Nageshwar Rao will perform routine functions essential for CBI's functioning, but not take any major decisions, a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi ordered.

While Congress chief Rahul Gandhi courted arrest on Friday after leading hundreds of his party's workers in a march to the CBI headquarters against CBI Director Alok Verma being divested of his powers and to demand an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
