Jehangirpuri-Samaypur Badli extension of the Yellow line of Delhi is expected to open soon for the daily commuters as Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has finally decided to inspect the corridor on October 28-29. CMRS had earlier given the dates of October 12-13 for the inspection which was later cancelled thereby delaying the opening of the new extension of the Yellow line corridor.
Sources said DMRC had applied for the CMRS inspection in early September but the dates were given for a month later. However, due to some reasons, CMRS had cancelled the inspection on the given date as well. The new dates for the inspection have been fixed on October 28 and 29.
A Metro official said if the safety inspection is conducted on the given dates and the result comes positive, the corridor will be opened for public within a few days of getting the safety clearance.
The 4.392-km extension will directly connect HUDA City Centre with Samaypur Badli by extending the existing Yellow line beyond Jahangirpuri. Starting from Jahangirpuri, there would be three stations on the stretch — Badli Mor, Rohini Sector 18 and Samaypur Badli. The section will cater to residents of north Delhi areas such as Jahangirpuri, Samaypur, Badli, Transport Nagar, GT Karnal Road and parts of Rohini.
While the target for this line to be opened was fixed by the end of this year, the construction was completed a few months back and trial runs were being conducted ever since July. Around 28,000 commuters are expected to benefit by the beginning of next year if this stretch is made operational, said a Metro official.
