Saket residents takes out protest march

Published on:

Hundreds of residents of the Saket area took to the streets in a peaceful protest march, demanding immediate attention to the worsening civic and environmental conditions in the area. This comes on the occasion of Earth Day on Tuesday. Organised by the Federation of RWAs, Saket, the march aimed to highlight long-standing issues resulting from civic apathy. The primary concern raised was the unchecked discharge of untreated sewage into storm water drains, causing foul odours, health hazards, and severe environmental damage, in violation of public sanitation norms.

“Other critical issues included the declining green cover, encroachment on forest areas behind Press Enclave, and the poor maintenance of public parks. Residents also expressed concern over the inadequate and poor-quality drinking water supply, lack of a fire station in the area, and the absence of community spaces and an office for the Federation. They stressed that sustainable living must begin with the fulfilment of basic civic needs”.

“Security concerns were also highlighted, with residents calling for improved surveillance and community policing to better protect women, children, and the elderly. A fire station at nearby Malviya Nagar was strongly advocated, as current emergency response times in Saket exceed 45 minutes, posing a serious risk to life and property,” RWAs stated.

Students from local schools participated in the march, taking part in awareness activities around environmental protection. The Federation underlined the peaceful and non-political nature of the protest, adding that written memoranda have been submitted to the relevant authorities, requesting time-bound action.
