The Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday accused all parties, including its Central leadership, of neglecting the Sikh community. leaders of Delhi SAD, at a Panthik Convention in the Capital, blamed the Governments at the Centre and in Delhi for the sorry state of the Sikhs. Condemning the neglect of Sikhs in the Capital, Delhi SAD president Paramjit Singh Sarna said the Sikhs, particularly the youth, would be a determining factor in the upcoming Delhi Assembly Polls and the general elections that would follow in May next year.

Hitting out at the Government and the party leadership, Sarna said, “The economic growth of the State is in shambles. Even our religious trends are on a decline. In such a situation, the leader of the State is to be blamed.” Similarly, Delhi, despite being one of the most developed States, has a large number of unemployed youth for want of leadership and guidance. “Delhi SAD would ensure greater youth participation and provide them with leadership,” Sarna maintained. Sarna also demanded proper place for Punjabi language and literature in Delhi University.

leaders who spoke at the Panthik Convention, held at Talkatora Stadium, raised serious doubts over SAD’s support to the BJP. “Our leaders have been supporting the BJP yet a large number of Sikhs are on the verge of being displaced in BJP ruled States,” alleged SAD leader Bir Devinder Singh.
