SAD reiterates call for SC-monitored SIT probe into 1984 Sikh riots

The BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal on Monday reiterated its demand for a Supreme Court-monitored SIT to probe the 1984 Sikh riots, saying the SIT ordered by the former AAP Government in Delhi was a ‘fraud’.

Extending its support to BJP candidates in seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi, SAD leaders said a BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre could only ensure justice for the victims. They came down heavily on the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party saying it was ‘getting instructions’ from the Congress.

“The SIT ordered by the AAP Government was aimed at misleading people and secure the Sikh votes. The SIT involving Delhi Police and CBI cannot conduct a fair probe as its officials were also involved in the massacre. We demand an SIT-monitored by the Supreme Court,” said Manjit Singh GK, Chairman of the Delhi Gurudwara Management Committee.

Member of Parliament Naresh Gujral also criticized the Congress for ‘injustice’ to the Sikh community alleging its leaders had perpetrated the 1984 riots. He rued that despite having a Sikh Prime Minister in the country for the last ten years, the community craves for justice.
