The Delhi Police has rescued a 16-year-old American girl who had gone missing since Sunday last. She was found from Bhatinda Railway Station in Punjab and has been handed over to her parents. The girl, who lived with her parents in Greater-Kailash Part-I area of South-East Delhi, had fled from her home after she had an altercation with her younger sister. Deputy Commissioner of Police, South-Eeast district, MS Randhawa said the girl was living with her family for last three years in GK-I and her father runs furniture export business.
Randhawa said the incident came to the fore when the girl’s father lodged a missing complaint with the Greater Kailash Police Station on Monday. The complainant said his teenaged daughter was missing from the house, adding his elder daughter had an argument with her younger sister on Sunday night and she reportedly lost her cool. He told police that she left without informing anyone. After looking for her in the nearby areas, he informed police about his missing daughter.
The investigation was taken up and several teams were pressed into service to locate the missing girl. Her photographs were circulated on the police net and an intensive search was launched, the DCP added.
The whereabouts of the girl could not be traced till her father received a call from an unknown number around 1 am on November 10. He reported the information of the phone call to cops at GK Police Station and as soon as they called on the same number, a boy named Sahil answered. Sahil reportedly told police that he was speaking from Bhatinda Railway Station and a minor had called from his number.
“Though the boy was to take a train from the platform, he skipped it and helped us in tracing the girl,” the DCP added. Sahil managed to convince the girl and she spoke to police officers over phone.
After convincing the girl to come back, police officers asked Sahil to take her to a police station nearby Bhatinda Railway Station. The girl was then kept under the supervision of Bhatinda police. They served her dinner and in the meanwhile a police team from the GK Police Station reached Bhatinda and brought her back to Delhi and thus she was united with her parents, Randhawa added.
