Rules out forming Govt

In a classic case of flip-flop which happened in less than 48 hours, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday declared at a Press conference that the chances of AAP coming to power were ‘negligible hence the party would not make any attempt to form the Government. AAP leader also apologised to the people for having resigned from the post of Delhi CM in February. Surprisingly, Kejriwal along with his party leaders on Tuesday had asked lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung for time to dissolve the Delhi legislative Assembly.

The move by the AAP leader, days after being trounced in the lok Sabha polls and three months after quitting as Delhi Chief Minister, is being touted as desperate attempt to regain its lost ground in the Capital.Calling his decision to resign without consulting the public as his ‘biggest mistake’, Kejriwal said, “I would like to apologise to the people of Delhi and the country for resigning mid-way. We made a mistake and we apologise for that. When we had quit the Government, we had done it on the basis of morality. We didn’t want to compromise on our principles.”

“last time, we made a mistake by not asking people before resigning. This time, we will not decide alone. We prepared a letter a day before, which was sent to the l-G yesterday (on Tuesday). But now the situation looks like there is negligible chance to form Government. So there is no point in holding a referendum,” added Kejriwal after a meeting with party legislators at Tilak Marg. He further went on to express that city dwellers turned against the AAP because of its abrupt decision to call it quits in the Delhi Government. “After the lok Sabha elections ended, wherever we went, people told us that we made one mistake... they support us, but we should not make any more (mistakes),” added Kejriwal.

Kejriwal also said in a party meeting, it had been decided to gear up for elections in Delhi. “We will go among the people, will hold various meetings in Delhi in the coming days. We will apologise to the people of Delhi in meetings and gain their trust to ask them to support us with complete majority,” he said.
