Unidentified thieves broke into the house of General Manager of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Noida’s Sector 62 area on Sunday and decamped with valuables worth around Rs50 lakh when the family was out of town.
According to the complaint lodged by the family — Rs15 lakh in cash, gold ornaments worth Rs30 lakh and other valuables were stolen from the house. A case has been registered at Sector 58 Police Station, but accused has not been identified as yet.
Police said that the incident took place on Sunday evening when the neighbours informed that Chanda Biswas’ house, in Bhagirathi Apartments, has been burgled. On Monday morning the Biswas family, who had gone to Rajasthan, returned and lodged the complaint with this regard.
The family, in its complaint, said that the theft might have been conducted with the help of security guards of the locality as they were well aware about the visit.
“We had informed only the security guards that we would be out of town,” said complainant Chanda Biswas, a permanent resident of West Bengal, who lives with her family in Noida since 2003. Her husband, Thomas KK, also works with a private firm in Noida.
“We have registered a case and have started investigating. We have been questioning security guards and others, who visited the house. We are also scanning CCTV details of the area so we could identify the burglars,” said a senior police officer.
