Police investigation into the murder of 42-year-old Rehana Chaudhary, wife of BSP MlA Haji Aleem Chaudhary in UP, indicate that the ground floor flat at New Jafrabad, which is valued at nearly Rs1 crore, was the bone of contention between the couple. Police sources said that the flat was bought by Haji Aleem around seven years ago for his wife but for the last four months, the MlA wanted to sell it and also take his second wife along with him to Bulandshahr.

However, Rehana was not happy with his decision and the couple constantly tussled over this issue.

After the questioning of all the relatives of Haji Aleem and his wife, investigators came to the conclusion that Haji had purchased a flat for his second wife in her name and currently, the price of the flat is Rs1 crore. “For the last eight months, they were fighting constantly as Haji wanted to sell his flat but the victim wanted to buy her new flat in East Delhi’s laxmi Nagar area, after selling her New Jafrabad flat,” police sources added.

Angered over this, Haji used to beat her up and around two months ago, the victim had lodged a domestic violence complaint with the women’s cell in Krishna Nagar against her husband and his younger brother.  Investigators also claimed that the younger brother of the MlA, Haji Yunis, also used to harass and threaten the victim with dire consequences. “We also came to know that the victim never opened door to strangers and the MlA and his younger brother used to visit at odd hours. After scanning the CDR of the victim, police found out that she had spoken to the MlA on Tuesday evening,” police sources informed.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Thursday ruled out robbery as a possible motive behind the homicide. But it seems it was done with the intended purpose to mislead police.
