The Ghaziabad Police seized Rs 6.5 crore unaccounted cash during raids on strategic places. Giving details SP City Shivhari Meena said that the drive was launched to keep tabs on the flow and use of black money before and during parliamentary elections. The police raided a suspicious Maruti van parked in the financial company’s hub in Raj Nagar District Centre (RDC) and found Rs 2 crore cash from it.

After the driver failed to provide details of carrying such a huge amount, the police informed Income Tax officials and handed over the cash to them. In the same locality, the police also seized Rs 26 lakh and Rs 6 lakh from two vehicles.

Raids were also conducted at UP gate where the police could seize Rs 4.12 crore. The police handed over the cash to the Income Tax officials. “In view of the parliamentary elections, we launched a drive to unearth the unaccounted money. By rule one cannot carry cash more than Rs 50,000. If somebody is found possessing more than Rs 50,000, he/she had to produce documents to justify it. So the drive proved successful when its team seized Rs 4 crore in one go,” said SP City Shivhari Meena.
