In a senational case of theft in the national Capital, four men decamped with a 300kg iron locker consisting of 12 car keys, Rs 12 lakh cash and a Mercedes car from car showroom in West Delhi's Moti Nagar area in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Ironically, the theft took place just 700 meters away from the Moti Nagar police station and the police personnel posted with the police station had no clue about it. Police said that they are scanning the 70 CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to establish the identity of the accused. Even more, the thieves fulfilled the theft with such deft that the cops stationed 700 metres away could not detect the big theft.
Meanwhile, the security guard, Pramod has been held for questioning as cops found his version to be contradictory to what they found in the CCTV footage.
A senior police officer said that the theft took place at the National Motors, a car showroom located in Moti Nagar area at around 2:40am.
"As per the CCTV footage, four men travelling in a Baleno car are seen stepping out of their vehicle outside the showroom. While two of them went inside the showroom, the other two waited outside. Within a few minutes, the two thieves who went inside came out with a 300kg iron locker consisting of 12 car keys, Rs 12 lakh cash. They stepped into the Baleno car and fled. The other two left with a Mercedes car,"
When the security guard, who allegedly went to use the toilet came back, he informed the showroom owner, lokesh Mittal.
Since Mittal was out of town with his family in Rajasthan, he called his brother Kapil who then went to the showroom and informed the local police.
Police is also questioning the security guard who is changing his statements.
