Amid the potential threat of Covid 19 third wave, Research for Resurgence Foundation (RRF), Nagpur on Tuesday recommended plans of actions including how to boost economic activities, integration of AYUSH with allopathy, promoting EDUSAT internet for children and how to dispose off domestic waste in the pandemic times.
In a first, Professor Sarit Das of the IIT Madras said early identification of post covid health complications such as mucormycosis is necessary. “Several efforts are already being carried out by various agencies for improving the response to the health challenges, we provide recommendations, for instance – training of mothers on how to deal with change in learning modes. How to dispose of Covid 19 domestic waste etc...,” The RRF in their recommendations mentioned mapping of the unorganised sector is important as many people in such industry became the victims of the pandemic. “There is no data on people who are co-linked with the hospitality and tourism industry, what happened to them during the second wave, how many of them lost their livelihood. These are points where agencies have to look to maintain balance in economic activities,” a RRF member said. In the case of education, different strategies for online/offline classes for primary, secondary and higher education may be prepared. Use of mass communication media such as TV channels should be promoted for primary and secondary education. For higher education guideline documents suggesting possibilities of online courses may be prepared by UGC and AICTE. “Existing infrastructure of the EDUSAT intranet may be promoted over the internet to avoid the misuse of the internet. Further, IT infrastructure available in other sectors such as Rail Tel may be integrated,” Dr Sachichidand Joshi, Chairman, RFF said.
Role of local administration to reduce mass migration of labourers and strategies of continued activity with covid protocols and financial support should be adopted,” RFF said, “ Promotion of acceptance of vaccines by joining hands with local community level leaders. Key for fighting against covid is effective coverage of vaccination of the population in both urban and rural areas. Community level awareness by local social leadership will bring peace to vaccination by removing apprehensions”, it added.
