Roshni at high risk of getting diabetes: Doc

The health of Roshni Kumari Gupta, the JNU student who is recuperating at Safdarjung Hospital after a brutal attack by classmate, is said to be stable. However, doctors said that she was suffering from polyuria (excessive production of urine) and it may lead to diabetes and further complications.

According to senior doctors of the Neurosurgery Department, it has been noticed that for the last two days her urine flow increased considerably. It may lead to Diabetes Insipidus (DI), which is a chronic excretion of pale urine, causing dehydration and extreme thirst.

Expressing concern over her health, a senior neurosurgeon said that they have sent her urine sample for pathological test and if she is found positive for diabetes insipidus, she'd be treated for that as well.

Diabetes may result in delaying her healing process. "She is still in the ICU and a team of doctors are monitoring her condition. Although she is speaking slowly, she is still frail and probably next week she will be shifted to the general ward," the doctor added.

According to doctors, she is moving her hands and legs. But, she would require at least three months more to recover completely. After shifting out of the ICU, she would require physiotherapy.

However, doctors ruled out the possibility of memory loss. They are of the opinion that post-traumatic amnesia results could only be known after the passage of at least two months.
