Roshini undergoes 2 brain surgeries

Doctors at Safdarjung Hospital performed two brain surgeries on the JNU student, Roshni Kumari Gupta,  on Wednesday evening. They said that the next 24 hours will be critical and she has to remain under constant observation at the Neurology Intensive Care Unit.

Dr BD Athani, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said that the condition of the patient is critical as she suffered multiple head injuries with a “traumatic brain injury”.

Doctors who have conducted the operations said that she received a 14-inch deep cut in her skull and was bleeding profusely. Apart from injuries in her skull she was also hit in the right hand with several marks on her face. A team of five surgeons from various departments, plastic, orthopaedic and neurosurgery doctors conducted the surgery.

A senior doctor in the neurosurgery department told The Pioneer, “She is critical and the next 24 hours are critical, nothing can be said before that. The pulse and the blood pressure are now feeble, but we are now monitoring her overall health condition. As the cut in her skull is very deep, it is going to take sometime to heal.”

AIIMS refuses to admit victim

Critically injured Roshni was taken first to the AIIMS Trauma Centre around 1 pm but the hospital refused to admit her citing non-availability of bed. She was then taken to the Safdarjung Hospital. Speaking on the issue, Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr BD Athani conveyed his displeasure over the refusal by the AIIMS authority. On the other hand, Director of AIIMS Trauma Centre MC Mishra said, “We want best treatment for the patient. As there was no bed available, we had to refer her to Safdarjung Hospital, it is general practice,”
