Special camps were held in the national Capital on Sunday to help voters check their names on the electoral rolls and thereby submit fresh applications for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls in case of oversight. A host of voters were seen outside a polling booth of Dwarka Sector 10 checking their names on the rolls. Similar camps have been set up all across 11,763 polling stations of Delhi to ensure fluidity and avoid any last-minute confusion.
“During last elections, we have seen that there was a lot of confusion among the voters, which hampered the process of voting. There were instances when voters were seen engaging in war of words with booth officers over the change in names or the wrong photograph affixed with their names on the rolls. Hence, we decided that it is best to initiate a process that creates transparency and voters are sure about their identity on the rolls,” said an official in Delhi Electoral Office.
“I happen to end up in a situation last year where my name was correct but the photograph was of someone else’s. This time, I want to ensure there is no such slip-up,” said Mahesh, a resident of GK-II. Other than this, Facebook and other modes of communication like FMs are being plied by the Delhi CEC to ensure that voters don’t end up in a sticky situation at the last minute.
