A road caved in at Shalimgarh Bypass Flyover on Tuesday which led to massive traffic jam on the stretch, also leading to cascading effect on nearby roads causing much woes to the commuters.

Traffic was also diverted on the stretch which led to long tail-backs.

The cave-in led to a hole in the flyover which could even be seen from below the flyover as well, said eyewitnesses.

PWD Minister Satyendra Jain said the hole will be repaired in a day or two. He also hinted that the earlier Government is responsible for the incident as the flyover was constructed in their tenure.

According to sources, the road had also caved in on Sunday but it was repaired by PWD using bituminous. However, on Monday night, perhaps due to a heavy vehicle passing over it, the material used for repairing the hole dropped off while iron rods still remained intact there.

PWD officials are trying to repair the same. PWD secretary Sarvagya Srivastava also visited the site on Tuesday. Interestingly, Sarvagya Srivastava was the project incharge when the flyover was constructed during in the run up to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

It is worth noting that during his 49-day Government, Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Government had asked its Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to probe alleged irregularities worth `184 crore in the construction of the Ring Road bypass.
