A rivalry between two gangs of Pul Prahladpur and Sangam Vihar in South East Delhi resulted in the daylight slaying of 27-year-old Kapil Sharma. Sharma, an accused in a manslaughter attempt, was headed to Saket Courts, when he was gunned down by his rivals. Sharma was driving past Pushp Vihar Sector 1 when two assailants on a bike apprehended his car and pumped six bullets into him on Thursday afternoon.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, South, Pramod Kushwah, said the killers have been identified. It was a pre-planned conspiracy; they were baying for Sharma’s blood. A case of homicide has been registered at Saket police station and an investigation ordered. It has been learnt that Sharma was an active member of a political outfit.
Meanwhile, sources in the police said that Sharma had come to Saket Courts in connection with a case and was reportedly returning home to Sangam Vihar after the hearing.
According to police, the incident was reported from Sector 1 of Pushp Vihar. The victim was in his XUV along with his two associates, Balraj and Rohit. Around 4.15 pm, two armed attackers on a bike inched towards the vehicle. “They whipped out their weapons and started firing at Sharma, caught off-guard. The killers, however, did not harm the other two occupants,” said a police official. Balraj and Rohit tried to chase the bikers but they managed to get away. Police Control Room was informed about the incident and Sharma was rushed to AIIMS, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Six bullet wounds have been located. Police say 10 rounds were fired. More details would would emerge once the post mortem report is furnished, a senior police official added.
A senior police official of the South district revealed that the two accused have been identified, but their identities cannot be divulged as yet. Preliminary investigations reveal that the murder was an outcome of a festering gang antipathy.
“The accused and the deceased were bad apples of Sangam Vihar police station and mired in several cases related to robbery and attempted homicide,” the senior police official said.
