RidZ welcomes action against Ola, Uber

RidZ, a taxi service aggregator in Delhi-NCR, has welcomed Delhi Government’s move to impound 18 cabs of Uber and Ola, for overcharging.

Abhishek Sharma, the chief executive officer of RidZ, said, “We welcome the punitive action by the Delhi Government against Ola and Uber for charging surge price from commuters. States like Karnataka have been progressive and have not only banned surge pricing but also banned taxi companies from charging any other charges apart from those stipulated by the State transport authorities. It is about time that such malpractices are brought to a complete stop in Delhi.”

He added that while companies like Ola and Uber advertise fares as low as Rs 7 per km, but when the overall fare comes, it could be anywhere between Rs 18 to Rs 25 per km.

“Also, while Ola and Uber have suspended surge pricing on a temporary basis, it does not mean that they won’t charge per minute ride charges, which continue to be Rs 1 per minute. The State Transport Authority of Delhi has mandated that the fare be taken only for the distance travelled. But, Ola and Uber continue to per minute ride charges, which is illegal,” he added.
