The Delhi Police on Monday announced an increase in reward for any information leading to missing JNU student Najeeb Ahmad from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The announcement was made after Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar met Delhi Police Commissioner Alok Verma over the missing student issue.
The family on the other hand reiterated that the varsity must allow a “complete police search” on the campus to find Ahmad and also take action against those who allegedly attacked him on October 14.
“The Chief Police Commissioner said the police department has taken several serious steps to find the MSc (Biotechnology) student Ahmad and has decided to increase the amount of reward for information regarding him from Rs. 50,000 to Rs one lakh,” said the V-C in a meeting with the administration, office bearers, JNU Student's Union (JNUSU), JNU Teacher's Association (JNUTA), officers' association and staff association.
The Mahi Mandavi hostel from where Ahmad went missing since October 15 afternoon, president and four warderns also attended the meeting called by the V-C.
“The Vice Chancellor and the Rector expressed the JNU Community's anguish over the missing JNU student and appealed to the Police Commissioner of Delhi to expedite and strengthen the search for the missing JNU student…All the members of the JNU community were requested to pass on any information they have to help us find Najeeb,” it said.
On the other side the family of the missing student is expressing “anguish” for not getting a clue about Ahmad. “We feel tormented that it is the 10th day and there has been no clue about him. Ahmad's mother is unwell. We want the administration to allow police to do a search within the hostels of the varsity. The attackers are roaming freely which is out worry too,” Agdas Musharraf told The Pioneer.
