Unidentified criminals shot dead a retired police sub-inspector in Ghaziabad. The incident occurred on Friday evening in Pratap Vihar locality under Vijay Nagar police station. The police said PD Sharma was taking an evening stroll alongside a service lane in Pratap Vihar. Around 5.30 pm, two assailants on a motorcycle sidled up and fired three shots at him. Two bullets hit him in the chest; a third struck him in the back. Responding to a distress call, the police rushed the injured victim to a hospital nearby where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
A month back, some unidentified criminals had shot the sub-inspector’s son as well. The police officer was apparently pursuing a case which rankled his seniors at work. This could explain the concurrent attacks on him and his father, claimed the son of the deceased. “A criminal case against unidentified persons has been registered. A manhunt is on to nab the accused,” said SP City Shiv Hari Meena.
