listing the ‘achievements’ of his 49-day rule in the national Capital, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday hit the streets of Chandni Chowk constituency seeking votes for party candidate Ashutosh. As an enthusiastic crowd turned out to listen to him, Kejriwal grabbed the opportunity to shift the focus from lok Sabha polls to a possible re-election for the Delhi legislative Assembly. Citing lack of clear majority as reason behind the ‘arrest’ and short duration of his Government, Kejriwal sought at least 50 seats in the next Delhi elections. He accused the BJP and Congress of joining hands to bring down his Government and blamed the two parties for all miseries of the Delhiites, including inflated power and water bills.
“The BJP and Congress are responsible for ending the subsidy on water and electricity which the AAP Government had offered when in power. 28 seats in Delhi Assembly are insufficient; you give us at least 50 seats and we will restart the subsidy,” he said. The AAP leader also rubbished the BJP’s charges of him running away from responsibilities saying he had resigned from the Government on ‘principles’ and that it was impossible to work under joint pressure of the BJP and the Congress.
Kejriwal’s road show in North-West Delhi areas starting from Britannia Chowk of Chandni Chowk constituency, nine days ahead of the lok Sabha polls, drew sizeable crowd. As the convoy of over a dozen cars passed through the lanes and bylanes of the congested area, residents peered out from the roofs and windows of their houses waving and cheering for the former Delhi Chief Minister. However, the road show disrupted traffic which left commuters reeling under chaos on a weekday and passersby had a tough time reaching their destinations.
The convoy was led by an open Jeep in which Kejriwal along with AAP’s Chandni Chowk constituency candidate Ashutosh waved to the crowd and also shook hands with some residents. Many residents who moved along with the convoy even garlanded Kejriwal as he moved ahead. Kickstarting the road show from Britannia Chowk near Samraat Cinema hall amid extensive police deployment, Kejriwal’s cavalcade passed through thickly populated areas such as A-Block Mother Diary, Rani Bagh and Saraswati Chowk and urged people vote for the journalist-turned-politician, Ashutosh.
