Hundreds of residents including representatives of Gurgaon Citizen Council and local resident welfare association of posh DlF and Sushant lok on Wednesday protested against the district administration and State Government over abysmal condition of roads in the city.
The condition of the roads in Gurgaon is pathetic, as there are no speed breakers and street lights never work. To make situation worse for the commuters, there are no subways and foot over bridges in the city. And now city has become accidents-prone. Knowing all this, the authorities failed to act and had done nothing to improve the condition. Seeing no step taken by the administration, on Wednesday the anger of the people against the apathy of the administration spilled on the roads and the busy Gurgaon-Faridabad Road was jammed by the protesters.
The residents assembled at Gurgaon-Faridabad road around 10 am and they blocked the traffic for over an hour or so. After the intervention of administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) Praveen Kumar the crowd agreed to leave the road and traffic was restored around 11 am. Kumar assured the residents that HUDA will construct the more speed breakers on the road, on the priority basis.
After the commissioning of Gurgaon-Faridabad Expressway, the number of vehicles has been increased multifold and over 50,000 pass through this junction.
“last week, a resident had died after he met with an accident while crossing the road. There is no speed limit on Gurgaon and Faridabad road and earlier several road accidents had occurred but district administration has done precious little to avoid this,” Rathi added.
