Facing continual traffic snarls, residents of Dwarka Sub City have filed a series of complaints Central and State Governments as well to provide a solution to de-congest the roads. The traffic hold ups are witnessed on daily basis on roads leading to Dwarka Sub-city via the flyover going towards the ring road via Subroto Park, Vasant Enclave, Westend Road, RTR Marg, RK puram areas in and around the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). Residents have also requested to construct two new flyovers for Dwarka sub-city to de-congest the traffic jam.

The complainants have filed a  series of complaints to the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, National Highway Authority of India, Delhi Chief Minister’s Office and the Prime Minister’s Office.

“The Dwarka Sub-city near IGIA’s domestic terminal is nearly 20 years old. Around 12 lakh people live in this area travel daily for work to the central Delhi via the route of domestic airport, Subrato Park, Vasant Enclave, Westend Colony, RTR Marg, R K Puram and up to Moti Bagh. Also, vehicles from the National Capital Region also ply on this road due to which traffic often comes to a standstill and that results into a long journey. On an average it should take just 15 minutes but people are forced to spend around two hours,”, residents have written in their complaint.

The residents also requested the government to provide a lasting solution by constructing two new flyovers for Dwarka Sub-city residents, near IGIA domestic terminal and the other one passing through the Delhi Cantonment area to ease the acute traffic congestion on Dwarka flyover and the road connecting the domestic terminal.

“Thousands of taxis, cars, trucks and buses ply on these roads daily from the whole NCR region is creating a chaotic situation and congestion on these roads. The residents of the sub-city are having harrowing time on these roads as well as the health is also getting bad due to the pollution caused by the vehicles,” said Rajiv Pathak, a resident of Dwarka sub-city.

Residents of the Central Government Housing Schemes (CGHS) of Dwarka sub-city further said, “We request the central and state government to take necessary action to ease the congestion and steps to de-congest the traffic on the flyover up-to Moti Bagh via RTR Marg on a priority”.

The Prime Minister’s office has acknowledged their grievance and forwarded the petition to the Chief Secretary of Delhi Government to take appropriate action and also to send a reply to the petitioner, recently.
