Residents in posh locality find ways to 'beat' system

In South Delhi’s Greater Kailash area, a posh locality, many people were seen driving luxury cars in the area, avoiding the main roads fearing being penalised for violating the odd-even formula.

“I don’t have any other option but to take my car out. I have just one car and I have to travel a long mile to go the market. So I had to take my car out. I am aware of the odd-even scheme and that’s why I didn’t take my car on the main road,” said Vikas Duggal, a resident of GK-II.

Meanwhile, passengers entering Delhi from Faridabad, Gurgaon and Noida over the weekend faced the music and those not adhering to the odd-even formula were fined `2000.

“People who drove to Delhi from the border areas adjoining the city were not aware of the scheme,” said a traffic police officer at Badarpur border area. But things on Monday improved a lot with not just roads witnessing a slump in traffic, petrol and diesel pumps too wore a deserted look.

Petrol pumps at Soami Nagar, Qutab Minar road as well as Ashram hardly had any cars.
