The Directorate of Education (DoE) on Tuesday finally issued a notice to all private unaided schools to reserve at least two seats in nursery for children with special needs. This came soon after the High Court issued a 24-hour deadline to the Government of Delhi.

Another circular issued on Tuesday for teachers of all Government and aided schools directed an increase in their working hours. The circular read that a half an hour increase would take place. The private and unaided schools were asked to follow their own timings but ensure that teachers stayed in school for an additional half hour from their normal timings. Teachers who accompany students in school buses were exempted from this order.

Additionally, no change has been made in the existing timings for children.A total of 51 schools were sent the circular on Tuesday and were asked to reserve the seats for the 2014-15 academic session. The order issued by the High Court to the DoE read, “Considering the fact that finalisation of the admission process is imminent in view of the orders of the Supreme Court, the Government of NCT of Delhi is directed to issue an appropriate

circular to schools to reserve at least two seats for children with special needs at the nursery level.”
