As one walks inside the newly constructed INA metro station one literally feels like walking under the open sky, courtesy to the art work done by several artists engaged by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) who created a replica of open sky in oil and paint.
The metro station will be open for the commuters in less than a fortnight to see the contemporary and modern art work all over the walls welcoming them and making travelling through metro a “pleasure”.
The 8.10 km stretch extended from Durgabai Deshmukh to lajpat Nagar with two major interchanges at INA and lajpat Nagar is slated to become operational very soon.
Stations such as the Sir Vishweshwaraih Moti Bagh station has been decorated with attractive artwork and displays that are conveying the messages of “greenery” and “preservation” of environment.
In an effort to showcase ethinic Indian architecture the metro station on the Ring Road has also been decorated with traditional Indian “Jali” work. The Jali installations are backlit and have night glow vinyl for better aesthetic look and visibility during the night.
“This stretch will also be known as 'Shopping Corridor', a continuation of the Majlis Park - Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus section, will be a major boon for the shoppers of the city as four major markets of the national Capital, i.e, Sarojini Nagar, INA, South Extension and lajpat Nagar will get dedicated Metro stations,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director (Corporate Communication), DMRC.
The stretch is also the first underground station to have only one elevated station - Sir Vishweshwaraih Moti Bagh in between the under section. Apart from the beautification, this corridor will give more options to interchange and save time.
“With the opening of this section, the Delhi Metro network will become 296 kilometres long with 214 Metro stations. In the year 2018 only, Delhi Metro has already opened over 57 kilometres of new lines. All the major corridors under Delhi Metro's Phase 3 are expected to be opened for passengers by the end of the year,” added Dayal.
There will be two interchanges at INA and lajpat Nagar. While INA will be an interchange facility between the Pink line and the Samaypur Badli - HUDA City Centre (line 2) Yellow line, the lajpat Nagar station will provide interchange between the Pink line and the Kashmere Gate - Escorts Mujesar (line 7) Violet line.
