Repairs on Blue line to give commuters the blues

To facilitate the ongoing repair work, which began 15 days back at the Noida City Centre Metro station, train services at the station will not be available for 33 hours starting this Saturday night.

Train services on the Noida City Centre Metro station will not be available from 9 pm on Saturday till 6 am on Monday. During this period, Metro trains on the Dwarka to Noida line will terminate at Golf Course Metro station.

Delhi Metro officials said that the repair work at the Metro station is expected to prolong and might take another two to three weeks to get completed.

Already lakhs of daily passengers on this corridor have to undergo a harrowing time due to slow speed of trains and long waiting time at the stations. Due to the repair work of the station’s civil structure, passengers will have to de-board at the Golf Course Metro station.

“For the convenience of passengers, DMRC will provide free shuttle service between Noida City Centre Metro station and Golf Course Metro station during this period. Train services on all other lines will remain unaffected.

Since the time the repairs have started on one of the platforms of this Metro station, commuters’ complaints of slow trains and long wait for the trains have been surging. Crowded trains and commuters waiting for over half-an-hour for the trains to arrive have become a common sight. Though DMRC claims that the frequency between Yamuna Bank and Noida City Centre is ‘six minutes,’ commuters complain that it is much more than officials claims. The corridor connects some of the busiest places in Delhi and NCR.

“It is part of the normal repair work for the train service not to be available at this particular station. While the repairs will continue, train services will not be halted at the station in future,” added the spokesperson.

Train services were adversely affected on this corridor due to a deflection in one of the cantilever arms of the Noida City Centre Metro station and one of the platforms of the station getting imbalanced. Cracks were reported

from pillars of the station and thus, platform sinking due to faults in the civil structure of the Metro station. With the problem getting out of hand, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had constituted a high-level committee to look into the problem.
