Removing road blocks hits a roadblock!

Due to the non-cooperation by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) in removing the encroachment on Vikas Marg, the drive failed to take off. The special drive was announced by the city Government was to commence from Monday but the EDMC officials who were tasked to remove encroachment from the service lanes did not join the drive.

When asked about their absence, the officials of EDMC said that the drive against illegal encroachment was expected to commence from Tuesday.

However, Delhi Traffic Police was there to remove the vehicles that are normally parked on the road. In the first phase of the drive, special emphasis has been laid down to remove vehicles plying under Gramin Sewa scheme, RTVs and cycle rickshaws from the road to ensure that it could not choke the crucial junction at Madhuban Chowk. Different civic agencies like Transport, PWD, EDMC, Traffic Police and local Police participated in the drive.

The Enforcement Wing of Transport Department was roped in to prosecute Gramin Sewa, RTVs and other vehicles violating the rules. The PWD officials have started to work for providing U-turn on the Patparganj Road so that vehicles could not block the traffic at the signal. Traffic police have earmarked a lane for cycle rickshaws waiting for passengers on the Patparganj Road which leads towards Mandawali.
