'Remember Bankim Chandra's birthday as International Day'

The National Commemorative Committee on Thursday demanded the birth anniversary of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the creator of Vande Mataram, be declared an International Day which falls on June 26. During a conference held by the committee, Shahid Ali, an advocate and national president of United Muslim Front said, “The song Vande Mataram is not linked to any religion. It has solely patriotic undertones in which India is portrayed as a mother and Indians as her children.”

Moreover, a special focus was laid on Vande Mataram movement, which has brought to light the need for environmentally sustainable and gender sensitive policies for development. “We want to draw the attention of our Government and agencies like UN towards our concerns,” said Ajay Mazumdar, a nominee for 2014 Nobel Peace Prize. The committee hopes to draw attention of United Nations and US Government to announce the day as International Day of Spiritual Unity of the world or International Day of Green Peace or International Day of Spiritual Health or International Day of Novelist or International Day of Patriotism for worldwide projecting the prediction of Vivekananda about Satyuga.

With this action-related study, the committee hoped that it will help Ministry of External Affairs to enhance understanding with the Gulf and the US. They also urged to declare the birth anniversary of Rani Rashmoni, as International Day for Social Justice.
