As the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is going to take charge of the Government soon, the Players Building, Delhi Secretariat has gone into a spin. The corridors of power are agog with the impending major reshuffle by the new Chief Minister.
There are enough indications that the AAP-led Government will go for a total overhaul of the bureaucracy and remove those who had managed to stay put in plum posts during the 15-year-long regime of the Congress Government. Senior IAS officers, who were perceived to be in a favourable position in the previous Government, are having sleepless nights.
As news of Kejriwal becoming the next Chief Minister spread, babus ensconced at key postings became uneasy. Sources said that the AAP was already scanning the list of top bureaucrats who could face the axe in the new regime.
There is a very strong possibility that there will be a total rejig and new officers will be posted at the key departments. First and foremost job on the new Chief Minister’s platter will be to overhaul the CMO. Sources also said that the Information and Publicity Department will also undergo
major changes.
In a related development, the General Administration Department (GAD) issued orders to spruce up the offices of the Ministers and the Chief Minister.
Officials told The Pioneer that they have been asked to clean-up offices of six Ministers and remove all pictures from the office. “It will take one or two days to clean-up the office,” said an official. The GAD has also begun giving a new look to the Chief Minister’s Office.
There are indications that the Chief Ministers and his Cabinet Ministers are in a mood to do away with many symbols of the trappings of power to make them accessible to the people and a mechanism will be put into effect to provide single-window clearance to the common man.
When approached, many bureaucrats posted at the Players Building were tight-lipped as they were watching the developments and parleys among them have begun to project themselves as neutral officers who did what they were asked to do.
