Registration Bill BJP’s gimmick: CM

Published on:

Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of indulging in a political drama and media gimmick by providing registration papers to just 100 property owners before the upcoming Assembly elections, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded that the registration papers be given to residents of unauthorised colonies within three days of filing application for the same.

Lashing out at the Opposition for doing nothing for the development of unauthorised colonies, Kejriwal said there is no logic behind providing registration to only 100 people just before the elections.

“Delhi has a huge influx of migrants from all over the country in search of employment and better opportunities. In the last 30-40 years, Delhi has been significant in terms of migration of people from other States in large numbers and in this scenario it is the responsibility of the ‘Delhi Development Authority’ to provide affordable housing to the people in Delhi but unfortunately, it has failed to meet the demand,” he added.

Listing out various development works carried out in these colonies by the AAP Government in the last five years, he said the scale of development has been the highest in the last 70 years.

Residents of these colonies are raising demand to develop and regularise it but they get nothing except false promises, Kejriwal said, adding that it was the AAP Government who worked extensively for the progress, development, and regularisation since formation of the Government in 2015.

He said that AAP Government carried out developmente work in such as constructing schools, providing health services, electricity, lying water pipelines, installation of CCTV cameras and street lights.

He also said the upcoming Assembly elections in Delhi will be contested based on the development work has been done in Delhi in the last five years.

“The political discourse in Delhi will be the discourse of all the developments that has happened in the city in the last five years and this will be the first election to be contested on the criteria of development in 70 years of history of India,” he said.

Blaming both the Congress and the BJP for delaying the process of providing ownership rights to residents of unauthoriesd colonies, he said the AAP Government sent a proposal to regularise the colonies to the Centre on November 12, 2015 but the Centre failed to take any action for four years despite our constant reminders in the matter.

It is now when people starting questioning their efforts for the development of Delhi in comparison to AAP, they started working on the regularisation of these colonies.

“We demand to establish such a system where the people shall get the registry within three days of their application. There should not be any discrimination of providing registry to only 100 people,” said the Chief Minister.

“I want to ask, where was the BJP when the Delhi Government was working on laying sewer and water pipelines and constructing roads in the unauthorised colonies in the city? They are acting on the regularisation procedure now when they should have done this way back,” he added.

The CM appealed to the people to not trust anyone until they get the registration paper in their hands.

“The people have been betrayed in the previous elections. The BJP could have started the process six months ago, but their concern now is just a political gimmick,” he said, adding that the AAP Government had already sent satellite maps to the Centre in 2015, and the Centre denied it asking for physical mapping of the colonies but now when they are using our satellite maps for the regularisation process, why could they not have done it earlier,” he asked.
