Register pvt vehicles with schools, DoE to parents

Published on:

Parents will now have to register their private vehicles with schools if they want to come personally and pick up their children. To ensure complete safety of students after school hours and avoid any unforeseen trouble, the Directorate of Education (DoE) has passed a mandate that students using private transport arranged by parents to ferry them to school will have to maintain a record of the transport with the school. This order has come in view of the several incidents of kidnapping and child abuse in the city.

The directions have gone to all private recognised unaided schools to take a list of drivers and conductors engaged in such vehicles and get them verified by Delhi Police. While this order was issued earlier to the schools as well, the directorate has this time issued appropriate instructions to the school management to collect the data of private vehicles, including the name and addresses of the drivers and helpers deployed on such private transport engaged by parent groups.

The letter issued by Madhu Teotia, Additional Director of Education, said, “All the schools — Government, aided and unaided — are hereby directed to maintain the data in the format issued by the directorate and submit the same in respective zonal offices of the directorate within one month.”

Further, Teotia added that all heads of schools, in their own capacity, be directed to advice parents of students studying in their schools, during the parents-teachers meeting, on the safety and security of their children who use private vehicle to ferry them to coaching classes.

This data would be kept with the school and accessed in times of emergency. Additionally, schools would not let students go off in private cars which are not on record.
