Refused money for booze, addict hacks mother to death

A 40-year-old alcohol addict allegedly hacked his mother to death when she refused to give him money to buy liquor. The incident took place on Sunday evening in outer Delhi's Kanjhawla area.

The accused has been identified as Fateh. He attacked his 64-year-old mother Satbati reportedly in a fit of rage. His mother was a retired official and used to get pension - money that Fateh was eyeing to fund his addiction since he himself was unemployed.

According to police, on Sunday evening, his mother rebutted him for his liquor habit while denying him the money to buy booze. Over this, a heated argument began between the two and Fateh started abusing the victim. Seeing his mother stand his ground despite his aggression, Fateh picked up an axe lying nearby and hit her twice on her head.

In the meantime, the suspect's uncle heard the commotion but before he could intervene, the victim had been dealt with the fatal blow.

"Fateh then tried to flee the spot but was overpowered by his uncle and within a few minutes, more relatives rushed in. Satbati was rushed to a nearby hospital where police declared her bought-dead.

“The body has been sent for post-mortem examination which will be conducted on Monday. A case of murder has been registered against Fateh at the Kanjhawla police station," a senior police officer said, adding that the accused has been arrested.

The police have taken the statement of Shiv Kumar and found that Fateh never did any work and lived off his mother's pension.
