Patients who were scanned with low radiation CT scanner at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital were found to be receiving 30-40 per cent less radiation dose. Health experts said harmful effects of CT and X-Ray radiations are more prone to cause cancer and other health complications.
Dr. T.B.S. Buxi, Chairperson, Department of CT and MRI at SGRH, said, "With the use of low dose iterative reconstruction technique employed by latest CT scanner installed in our hospital, more than one lakh patients who have undergone the CT scan at SGRH had 30-40 per cent less radiation dose."
"The risk of developing cancer after a CT scan is about 1 in 2000 in adults and more in children and pregnant women who are more sensitive to radiations. Therefore, we thought of reducing the radiations coming out from CT scan and X-Rays," he said.
According to a journal of Biomedical Garphics and Computing 2014, over 966 patients were scanned and it was evaluated that average dose reduction of 33.2 percent in thorax, 32.455 percent in Abdomen/ pelvis and 49.706 in head examinations was achieved.
