After announcing the redesigning projects of the nine most congested roads, the Delhi Government has started the construction work on these stretches during the night as during the day time traffic on these corridors is  high. Out of 45 km long nine stretches, work order for three stretches has been awarded.

Also, the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendar Jain on Wednesday said Delhi roads are wide but are not planned properly. "There are number of uneven roads. For instance, there are roads whose width will vary, somewhere it is 2m, then 3m and again 2m, due to the differentiation in the lane width, commuters and pedestrians face traffic snarl," said Jain.

There are total nine roads consisting of 45 km, out of which work order for three stretches — Ashram to All India Institution of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Panchmahal from Vikas Marg, Kadakdi Diversion and Narwana Road Mother Dairy from Lakshmi Nagar was issued recently on Tuesday. The work order for another six roads will be issued by 15th November. The construction of all these roads will be completed by mid 2020.

Jain said the main aim through this redesigning and streetscaping project is to create a green ambience, 'zero' traffic hurdles and curb accidents. Roads will be re-developed to curb accident, user and disabled friendly and separate lanes for cyclist, Non-Motorised Vehicles (NMV's), MV's, service lane, parkings will be created," he said.

He said footpaths will also be re-designed and will be widened wherever possible, bottlenecks will be removed and street furniture, plantation, proper bus stops, police booths and concrete structure will be created to control dust pollution.

The other stretches are Wazirpur Depot to Rithala Metro Station, Britania Chowk to Outer Ring Road West Enclave Pitampura, Shivdhapuri Marg and Patel Road, Ring Road, Mayapuri to Motibagh Junction, Ambedkar Nagar to Defence Colony Flyover  and Outer Road, Nigam Bodhi Ghat to Magazine Road Crossing. The total cost of the project is around Rs 400 crore.
