Recovery of liquor bottles: AAP leader to be probed

Delhi Police Commissioner BS Bassi on Wednesday said the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) newly elected legislator Naresh Balyan would be called for questioning within a day or two in connection with recovery of liquor bottles from his relative’s warehouse.

“When we called him for questioning, he said…he will join the probe after elections. Cops were busy in counting security arrangements. He will be summoned in a day or two,” said Bassi.

Balyan has been elected as an AAP legislator from Uttam Nagar constituency. On January 31, a team of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch recovered 497 cartons containing 8,352 bottles of liquor from a house in Uttan Nagar’s Om Vihar. The bottles labeled “for sale in Haryana”.

A case under the Excise Act was also registered and probe started. Police summoned him (Balyan) twice to join the probe after the recovery of bottles but he did not turn up. Bassi also said that an option of coercive action was always open for them.

“If he doesn’t come now, obvious coercive action is always an option of us,” he added. AAP leaders Ashish Khetan, Ashutosh and Sanjay Singh met the Police Commissioner on Friday and requested him to allow Balyan till elections to join the probe.
