Though Delhiites have been reeling under scorching and unbearable heat for the last some days, doctors and weathermen said extreme heat conditions have its own benefits.
According to medicos, hot weather keeps diseases like Malaria, Jaundice and many others at bay. A senior official of the Indian Metrological Department said besides, the soaring temperature and excessive heating of the Earth's surface in a way helps in providing favourable conditions for the much-awaited monsoon.
"Summer is an essential part of the weather cycle. Although the blazing heat is adding to the woes of the people yet it has its own flip side as it (heat) would help in the development of the pressure gradient, which is considered good for the monsoon. Although, heating has no direct relation with the monsoon yet it will help in creating moisture, which is a necessary pre-condition for the monsoon," said Director of the Indian Metrological Department BP Yadav.
On the other hand, doctors and health experts said the soaring temperature had helped in reducing the number of malaria, jaundice and chicken guinea patients considerably.
They said that the mosquitoes causing these diseases couldn't survive in such high temperatures.
SP Byotra, Senior Consultant and Chairman, Department of Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital said, "With the temperature hovering over the 40 degree Celsius mark, there are fewer cases of patients suffering from diseases like Malaria, Dengue and Chicken Guinea which were transmitted by disease-carrying mosquitoes. These mosquitoes cannot tolerate such high temperatures."
Dr Nitin S Walia, Senior Consultant of Dermatology at the BlK Hospital, said, "The present hot and dry weather will help kill microorganism, which would in turn help in the reduction of infectious diseases."
