The historic Ramlila Maidan, which saw the emergence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Delhi’s political horizon, is getting ready for the swearing-in ceremony of the Government led by it.
Apart from civic body officials and AAP leader Shazia Ilmi — senior Delhi Police officials, including Special Commissioner of Police (law & Order) Deepak Mishra, inspected the venue on Tuesday afternoon. The oath taking ceremony is likely to take place on December 26. A meeting of senior officials, headed by Delhi Chief Secretary
DM Spolia, was held on Tuesday evening to chalk out the plan for the ceremony. However, they are awaiting a written communiqué from the President’s House.
Sources said concerned departments like the PWD and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation have been instructed to keep be ready with their preparations which include sanitation, seating arrangements and drinking water among others. This is for the first time that the oath taking ceremony of a Government in Delhi is being held at a public place unlike the traditional practice of taking oath at the lieutenant-Governor’s House. The ceremony at Ramlila Maidan will be open to all and no invitation or special treatment will be accorded to any VIP or dignitary.
The Ramlila Ground has the capacity of over 50,000 people. Assuming a high turnout, the Delhi Police is also busy in preparing a foolproof security plan. The Ramlila Maidan will be handed over to Delhi Police on Wednesday evening after an ongoing event at the venue is over.
