It is going to be a tough fight for BJP ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa from Rajouri Garden Assembly seat. Sirsa, who won last time, has been forced to sweat it out as voters appear inclined towards Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Residents here are ready to forgive Arvind Kejriwal for beating a hasty retreat 49 days later. AAP has fielded Jarnail Singh from this seat, Congress has nominated Meenakshi Chandela.
Ready to give AAP a second chance, Anuj Ved, a resident of Vishal Enclave, said, “Politics is full of second chances. Kejriwal is hoping to travel the same route in seeking political redemption. The media loves a comeback story, if only because it allows them an opportunity to revisit what brought down that politician in the first place. Voters identify with the underdog and cheer for him as we would for ourselves.”
Bharatiya Janata Party’s ally SAD is eyeing this seat since West Delhi has a sizeable amount of Sikh electorate. SAD candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa is the sitting MlA from Rajouri Garden constituency. However, Rajouri Garden is an interesting battleground because in the 2008 elections, Avtar Singh Hit of the SAD lost the election by a margin of 46 votes to Congress’ Dayanand Chandila and in 2013, SAD candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa won from this seat. Winds of change are blowing in favour of AAP what with autorickshaw wallahs, cycle rickshaw drivers having reposed their faith in AAP candidate Jarnail Singh.
