It was an overcast but hot and humid Sunday as rains eluded most parts of Delhi. The MeT office has forecast a cloudy Monday with chances of light rain in some parts of the city.

Sunday witnessed a minimum temperature of 28.1°C, a notch above the season’s average. The maximum was 37.4°C which was three notches above the season’s average. Humidity levels fluctuated between 79 per cent and 51 per cent. Rainfall was recorded only at Palam where the rain gauge measured a rainfall of 3.8 mm. “There has been no strong rainy system over the weekend. So rains kept away from the city even as the weather condition was that of mostly cloudy sky. This year, in general also we the IMD had predicted a weak monsoon, so this is expected,” said the weatherman.

The MeT Department has predicted light rains on Monday. “Generally the sky will remain cloudy tomorrow (Monday) with very light rainfall,” said an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official, adding that thundershowers may also occur in some parts of the national Capital. The day temperature is likely to hover around 36°C, while minimum will settle at 26°C on Monday.

Saturday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5°C, three notches above the season’s average while the minimum temperature was settled a notch above the season’s average at 27.6°C.

Meanwhile, Union minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday that monsoon is expected to be normal in the coming weeks and there is no need to be ‘alarmist’. “The deficiency of monsoon in the first six weeks was 43 per cent. It has now gone down to 32 per cent. So, monsoon has increased by 11 per cent,” he said.
