Weather conditions left Delhiites disappointed as the city was bereft of even light rains on Monday. However, rains are expected from Tuesday and are likely to continue until June 30. The temperature is also expected to dip further to 36 degrees.
“On Tuesday, temperatures are likely to fall with the maximum being around 36 degrees and minimum likely to settle at 28 degree Celsius. It will be a generally cloudy sky. This phase is expected to stay till the end of this month,” said an official in the Met department.
Monsoon had hit the city last Sunday and it rained for two consequitive days since then. However, soon after that, the Capital has been facing a dry and extremely humid spell. Explaining the reason for rains not hitting the city on Monday, the official said, “The development of clouds was not proper during the past few days. The monsoon trough rather shifted towards the foothills of the Himalayas and there was an absence of a proper system. It can be termed as the weak phase of monsoon. Moreover, Westerly winds were blowing in the city which is relatively dry.”
According to officials, the city may witness light to heavy showers from Monday night. “The Easterly winds which carry maximum moisture and facilitates rainfall have started coming towards Delhi from 5:30 pm on Monday. So rains are likely,” they said.
On Monday, the weather continued to be hot and sultry. The maximum temperature was recorded at 39.4 degrees which was two points above normal. There was no reprieve in the minimum temperature also, which remained well above the 30-degree mark settling at 30.3 degree Celsius.
While Monday’s maximum was slightly down from Sunday's 39.6 degrees, the minimum was marginally up from the same day’s 29.8 degrees. The maximum humidity was recorded at 77 percent, while the minimum settled at 43 per cent.
