Congress president Rahul Gandhi will launch the first election campaign of  Lok Sabha poll 2019 in Haryana on Saturday by addressing a rally in Gurgram’s Sector-5.

Former state minister and senior Congress leader Ajay Singh Yadav is contesting against Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh from the Gurugram seat.

The election rally by Rahul Gandhi is aimed to highlight the failure of BJP led government and also focus on urban as well as rural voters of Gurugram, Mewat and Rewari to connect with the party so that its candidate Ajay Singh Yadav performs well in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“It is a first public meeting organised by the Congress party in the State. The party president will come on Saturday and will address a public gathering around 4.30 pm. This rally will increase the morale of party leaders and workers. Party is working to ensure a bigger margin of victory,” said Yadav, who is the party’s candidate from Gurgaon Lok Sabha seat.

“The party had reposed faith in him, and he would ensure that the Congress emerges as a winner.

He claimed that he had the support of all the local Congress leaders and would emerge victorious in the election,” Yadav said.

The party’s think tank is expecting that its candidate Yadav will perform well as there is no strong candidate from Mewat this time, which earlier used to make the contest triangular for the seat and ensured an easy victory for sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh of BJP, said a party leader, preferring anonymity.

Party insiders said that both Congress candidate Yadav and BJP’s sitting MP Rao Inderjit Singh is strong Ahir (Yadav) leaders, and both the leaders have a stronghold in the region. The Congress is also expecting that Muslim voters in Mewat will vote in this favour.

Yadav, Former Haryana Finance Minister said that the May 4 election rally would prove to be a game changer for the constituency. “We are expecting a huge public gathering at the rally as party workers and people from the different district will attend it,” said Yadav.

Yadav said the key focus of the rally would be to highlight the failure of the present Government. The Congress had brought IT units and Industrial hub in the district. Seeking to know the contribution of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and local MP Rao Inderjit Singh to the development of the city, he said BJP transformed Gurugram from the Millennium city to world’s most polluted city.
